The semicolon is a hugely powerful punctuation mark. Getting it right will help you move up the levels and impress your teachers. Correct use will allow you to express your ideas and opinions more precisely. The good news is that it is simple and easy to use and should take you no more than a few minutes to master.

to link two separate sentences that are closely related
The children came home today; they had been away for a week.
in a list that already contains lots of commas
Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry; Babylon 5, by JMS; Buffy, by Joss Whedon; and Farscape, from the Henson Company.
